Awesome Yellowstone
In August I headed over to the US and spent an amazing 2 weeks exploring Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
It had been a few years since my last visit and I was excited about what I would find. After arriving into Jackson Hole I picked up my rental car and headed to Teton Village which was to be my base for the first few days. My aim here was to spot Moose and enjoy the magnificent landscapes. Mission accomplished and I even managed a fun encounter with a black bear crossing a stream.
From Grand Teton I headed north into Yellowstone.
I was staying in multiple lodges, the intention being to base myself in particular areas of the National Park to optimise opportunities to see wildlife. The plan actually worked pretty well.
Mammoth was my first stop and on the way there I came across a Gray Wolf in the Hayden Valley. A real bonus and I managed some shots of the wolf as it moved across the road and finally up and over a hill. Awesome start to my Yellowstone stay.
Wolves were my main focus and I did see plenty of them. In total, 17 wolves but what people don’t tell you is that they rarely come close to people and therefore capturing them is typically from a distance.
After Mammoth I moved south to Grant Village and then west to the Old Faithful area.
I had some great encounters with Pronghorn, Grizzly, Coyote, Elk, Hawks, Eagles and Black Bear during my time in Yellowstone.
Of course, Yellowstone is much more than wildlife. The landscapes are incredible and I tried to capture them as I worked my way around the parks.
Great experience and Yellowstone more than satisfied my expectations.
