Africa

This was a second visit to Africa and the focus was on finding two animals that we missed out on last time, the Cheetah and African Wild Dogs. Success came quickly. Out first stop was Madikwe and what an amazing experience we had there. Cheetah and Wild Dog in our first two days, numerous Rhino and of course, lions.

Our next stop was Sabi Sands and its reputation for leopards is well known. And we definitely saw lots of leopards! We also saw more Wild Dogs, many hyena and lions. The final stop in South Africa was Timbavati and this gave us a very rare sighting, the white lion. We were fortunate to spend quite a bit of time with the white lion and her family and we keep track of her progress from afar.

Leaving South Africa we travelled north to Tanzania. The highlight was the Ngorongoro Crater. Just amazing. The moment we descended into the misty crater and arrived on the valley floor we were overwhelmed with the variety of animals and environments. Some great moments with lions but we were especially delighted to spend time with a Black Rhino and as we left, pink flamingos. A final stop at the vastness of the Serengeti and then it was home to Australia.

Next time we really want to visit the Okavanga Delta. Soon I hope!
