Victoria Falls

The obvious thing to do in Victoria Falls is to see the Falls, yes?

Spectacular they were (although not in the same way as Iguazu Falls) but I was also keen to explore potential wildlife encounters. Specifically, I was looking for black rhino. The Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve presented such an opportunity and it was everything I hoped for. The guide conditioned the group early on that sightings were rare but possible. Ten minutes into our drive and success! A black rhino wandered into our path and posed magnificently for us while he tried to figure out what we were. Once he did, he was gone!

Later in the day we spent nearly an hour with the matriarch of the Park and her baby. An amazing experience I will never forget.

So, yes Victoria Falls is a ‘must see’ when visiting Africa but don’t just restrict yourself to the Falls. There is plenty of wildlife to see as well.
